Marietta Main Street holds September First Friday: Back to School

MARIETTA -- While local schools have already welcomed students back, downtown Marietta is marking the start of the new academic year with its First Friday Back to School event, hosted by Marietta Main Street from 5-9 p.m.
This monthly event provides late shopping, live music, pop-up artists, special sales and restaurant promotions. September’s edition is sponsored by Memorial Health System.
Set up at the Armory on Front Street will be Washington County Soil & Water Conservation District, Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities, Students Solving Problems, MOV'n Dragons, Living Democracy, Waterview Pointe and the Boys & Girls Club.
On Putnam Street, Parkersburg resident and former “American Idol” contestant Luke Colombo will be performing outside Peoples Bank Theatre as part of their free summer concert series. The free performance will be followed by the ticketed Sarah Evans concert inside the theater on the main stage. On Front Street, Teri Ann's will host Lexi Wittekind of Good Witt Designs with her jewelry and other handcrafted designs. Dad's Primitive Workbench will have Goldie Permanent Jewelry in the store.
JustaJar Design Press will have prints on sale and live music in the store. First City Records is celebrating the Beatles with Get Back! To Abbey Road: a 57th Anniversary acoustic tribute. The store will also feature a new vinyl drop and a mini Beatles museum.
At Wit & Whimzy, teachers and school employees will receive 10% off their purchase with their school ID. Clutch Collective will host local artist Emily Lang of Little River Rat with her stickers, art prints and more.
Schafer Leather Store and Twisted Roots Salon will be open late for the evening. At River City Spaces, customers can enjoy a cocktail while they meet local artisan Jennifer Moore. A new addition to Front Street is Life Balance Healing, newly relocated to 248 Front Street. Owner Louise Cruz is looking forward to her first event in the new space.
"I am so grateful to be part of such a wonderful long-standing event, and to offer something unique to this amazing community," she said.
Another young business, Derailed Distillery, will be participating with their product launch of Junction Honey Bourbon - Ohio River Sternwheel 50th Anniversary Edition. Most downtown restaurants will join the festivities, including Over the Moon Pub & Pizza. At the Town House, Division Street will take the stage at 8 p.m. The Original Pizza Place is hosting Liv Love Slime Co., a young entrepreneur who owns and runs her own slime business.
Downtown First Friday events take place the first Friday of every month from 5-9 p.m., February through December. Highlights of these events include late shopping, artists and musicians, area organizations and various activities tied to the theme. According to Marietta Main Street, each First Friday is a celebration of the local community and an opportunity for locals, tourists and area groups to show their support for the town, have fun and enjoy the beauty of vibrant, historic downtown Marietta.
