MARIETTA -- Children ages 2 to 15 can learn fishing skills alongside local union volunteers during a free event Saturday, Sept. 19, at Buckeye Park.

The Union Sportsmen's Alliance, Ohio AFL-CIO and Electrical Workers Local 972 will host Marietta Take Kids Fishing Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park, 113 W. Fay Ave.

The first 150 youth anglers will receive a free fishing rod and reel. Families can also enjoy a free picnic-style lunch following the fishing activities.

All children must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or chaperone.

Organizers said the event welcomes children from a variety of backgrounds and of all physical abilities. It is intended to introduce participants to fishing and conservation while giving families an opportunity to spend time outdoors together.
