Blues Society slates Cobbler’s Coffeehouse

MARIETTA – A noted blues and jazz artist will perform in a Cobbler’s Coffeehouse show sponsored by the Blues Jazz & Folk Music Society at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Gun Room Restaurant of the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta.
Vanessa Collier, an American blues, funk, and soul saxophonist, singer and songwriter will be accompanied by Arthur Neilson, guitarist for singer Shemekia Copeland and also will participate in a program in local middle schools.
A Berklee College of Music graduate, Collier has won multiple Blues Music Awards, including Horn Player of the Year and Contemporary Blues Female Artist.
She also will participate in the Blues in the Schools program offered each year by the Blues Society. Collier was last here in 2019.
Each year, a certified blues educator is contracted for a multi-day residency, this year at seven middle schools and a juvenile detention facility in the Mid-Ohio Valley. The performances are not open to the public.
The week culminates with a Cobbler’s Coffeehouse performance.
Named in honor of the late “Cobbler" John Bolen, who in his early years spent much time in the New York City coffeehouse folk scene. A series was Bolen’s vision to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a 1960s laid back & chill coffeehouse for music lovers and friends to gather. Tickets for the show are $20, available either on Eventbrite or with cash at the door. Seating is limited.
