PARKERSBURG -- An artist behind the floodwall murals at Point Park will be featured at The Market at the Parkersburg Art Center.
Christopher Santer is the September featured artist.
A Parkersburg native living in Minnesota, Santer created his mountain paintings as a love letter and a memorial to Appalachia. He has created artwork that captures the spirit of the region using paint, charcoal and bituminous coal dust.
The Market also recently welcomed potters Julie Emrick and Jeff Lawrentz, brought in pieces by woodturners Petey Peterson and Larry Weese, fresh art by Kembelene McGinnis and Cathy Norosky and fabric art and possum coloring books by Micki Lamb of Snark and Soul. The shop features the work of more than 70 regional artists and crafters, Art Center swag and crafting kits for kids.
Santer and Edward Escandon, a local business owner and artist who directed the mural project, were the organizers for the floodwall mural project. Local artists Belinda Armstrong and Emma Romanowski also were involved in the project.
Santer created Pacem Studio in 1999 in St. Paul, Minn. He graduated from Ohio University in 1994 with a master's of fine arts and his work has been exhibited around the country.
Also at The Market are the monthly Saturday drop-in workshops when no registration is required, but a $5 donation is collected at the register.
The next drop-in workshop is Sept. 26 and will feature Margee Bias. Participants will make beaded bracelets.
A roster of new classes and workshops is available at the Art Center. Adults can get into pottery, stained glass, watercolor painting, drawing and the FineTime workshop series while young artists have their own lineup with Mini-Monet, Preschool Picasso, Crazy-Messy-Kids club and pottery for kids.
