CEOS show off skills at the Summer Showcase

MINERAL WELLS - Adults also got in on the fun of showing various projects at the recent Wood County 4-H & FFA Summer Showcase.
CEOS (Community Educational Outreach Service) members and open adult competitions provided many throughout the community with an opportunity to display their talents and skills, according to a press release from the Wood County WVU Extension Office.
Exhibits included quilting, sewing, crocheting, knitting, embroidery, home décor, flowers, vegetables, home food preservation, baked goods, photography, artwork, crafts and many other home economics and horticulture projects that celebrate creativity, lifelong learning and West Virginia traditions, according to the press release.
Best of Show awards recognized the highest-quality exhibits in each department. An exhibit first had to receive a blue ribbon or first-place award within its category before being considered for Best of Show honors. This year’s Best of Show recipients were Kay Hill, Deb Kent, Shelley Lewis, Jody Lindsey and Vera Smith.
Judges also presented Judges’ Favorite awards to exhibits that especially impressed them for their creativity, craftsmanship, originality or overall presentation. These awards could be given regardless of ribbon placing and recognize entries that made a lasting impression during judging. This year’s Judges’ Favorite recipients were Alissa Dixon, Betty Gifford, Shelley Lewis and Sonja Phillips.
The Wood County 4-H & FFA Summer Showcase is coordinated through WVU Extension, the Wood County 4-H Leaders Association, and the Wood County 4-H Camp Trustees in partnership with local FFA chapters and the Community Educational Outreach Service. The annual event provides youth with opportunities to develop life skills through project work, leadership and livestock education while showcasing their accomplishments to the community.
