Two firemen injured in firetruck accident when responding to reported fire

PARKERSBURG – Two firemen with the Parkersburg Fire Department were taken to the hospital late Wednesday night after responding to a fire call.

The firetruck had tipped onto the driver’s side while taking a turn on the road towards the reported fire.

Fire Chief Jason Matthews said they received a call of a structure fire at 9:55 p.m. on 21st Ave. off of Pike Street and the firemen responded to the scene.

“As engine three was responding, they made it to the top of the hill and it took a sharp turn and tipped over on the driver’s side,” he said.

Matthews said crews responded to the firemen who were then rushed to the hospital for minor injuries from the crash. He said they were both approved to be released a few hours later into early Thursday morning.

“The fire was handled by other firefighters on scene, but as they arrived, there wasn’t actually a fire, someone had burnt their food,” he said.

Matthews reported the two individuals were recovering and would soon be back to work. He said they’re currently in contact with insurance about the damages on the firetruck.
