Songwriting workshop, bike ride on tap for Parkersburg Engagement Project
PARKERSBURG – The Parkersburg Engagement Project is offering a songwriting workshop and the start of a series of bicycle outings this weekend.
Athens musician Megan Bee will lead an interactive workshop on songwriting from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Children’s Home Society, 2500 36th St., Parkersburg.
According to a release, participants will learn sensory writing, metaphors, rhyming and song form to put together a song that expresses their thoughts and feelings. All ages are welcome, but those under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. No musical or songwriting experience is required. Participants are encouraged to bring an instrument if they play one.
Class size is limited, and participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
People can register by calling 304-488-3810 or emailing wendytuck5@gmail.com.
The project’s Summer Riding Series kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Parkersburg Ohio River Trail at Point Park in downtown Parkersburg.
The family-focused launch event will include the Parkersburg & Wood County Public Library’s Bookmobile, interactive trailside storytelling and free loaner bikes, according to information provided by the group.
The summer series will continue at 6 p.m. each Sunday in June and July with a self-paced, casual group ride or walk the group says is intended “to encourage connectivity and physical activity.” Loaner bikes will be available, and walking or biking “buddies” will be on hand to assist.
The Parkersburg Engagement Project is a group focused on community-led decision-making and organized action which is working to address substance abuse as a significant community issue.
