RAVENSWOOD – Hundreds came together June 13 for the 10th Annual Dash for Diabetes 5K Walk/Run sponsored by the City of Ravenswood and Coplin Health Systems.

More than 116 runners and walkers participated in the Dash. All funds raised by this year’s participants benefit two programs: the Ravenswood Recreation Youth Program and CHS’s Diabetes Education Program.

“Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Dash for Diabetes is a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together around a common goal,” said Mary Treadway, Diabetic Educator with CHS.

Approximately 259,000 adults in West Virginia are living with diagnosed diabetes, and an estimated 15,000 more are diagnosed each year, according to the American Diabetes Association.

This year’s top finishers in the runner’s category went to C. Woodell, of Saint Albans, W.Va., who completed the race in 24:43 for the ladies, and Derick Reynolds of Vincent, Ohio, with a time of 19:03 for the men. Top walker recognitions go to Katherine Mader of Vienna, W.Va., with a time of 34:16, and Carl Kondrach with a time of 28:55.

Starting at $3.70/week.
