Golden Horseshoe recipients announced

PARKERSBURG – Thirty-two eighth-grade students from the region will be inducted next month into the Order of the Golden Horseshoe by the West Virginia Department of Education.

The 95th class of recipients, who have demonstrated a mastery of West Virginia history, will be feted in ceremonies beginning at 9 a.m. June 9 at the West Virginia Culture Center in Capitol Complex, 1900 Kanawha Blvd. East in Charleston. The class consists of 225 students from across the state who will become Knights of the Golden Horseshoe.

Local students are:

Calhoun County: Brooke Brown, Calhoun Middle/High School; Hope Wolford, Calhoun Middle/High School

Doddridge County: Elias Farr, Doddridge County Middle School; Samuel Lau, Doddridge County Middle School

Gilmer County: Theron Minney, Gilmer County High School; Mason Morris, Gilmer County High School

Jackson County: Ramona Allinder, Ravenswood Middle School; Alivia Belisle, Ripley Middle School; Serenity Reed, Ripley Middle School; Ava Isner, Ripley Middle School

Ceremonies will be held at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Calhoun Jackson, Roane and Wirt counties will be at 9. Gilmer, Pleasants, Ritchie, Tyler, Wetzel and Wood counties will be at 11. Doddridge County will be at 1:30 p.m.
