PARKERSBURG – The Professional Fire Fighters of West Virginia Convention was being held at the Wood County Resiliency Center in Parkersburg (the Center on Market) on Thursday and today. The event is being attended by around 115 firefighters from around the state. Resiliency Center Director Sydney Weber said there are sessions and speakers throughout the event as well as a number of vendors. Organizers had a reception Wednesday evening at the Parkersburg Brewing Company to highlight some of the local restaurants. Participants were taken Thursday evening out to Blennerhassett Island to show guests what is available in the local area. The 1854 hand-operated fire wagon, used by the Parkersburg Fire Department in the late 1800s was on display at the event. Gary Traugh owns the wagon, which is normally on display at the Museums of the Mid-Ohio Valley. The MMOV and Traugh agreed to allow the wagon to be displayed at the conference. It is the first time the wagon has left the W.H.Smith Hardware Store since Traugh and David McKain first moved it into the building nearly 30 years ago. Mike Pfifer of Pfifer Towing moved the fire wagon from the museum to the Center on Market.
