Power outage in Williamstown leaving over half the community without power
The city of Williamstown experienced a power outage that left over 50% of residents without power Tuesday morning.
Officials with Mon Power reported the outage at 10:19 a.m. due to equipment damage.
According to Mon Power, there were 1,775 out of 3,375 Williamstown residents without power with restoration completed shortly after noon.
Wood County Schools Superintendent Christie Willis released a message to the community promptly after the outage and it stated that Williamstown High School and Elementary were impacted late in the morning.
In the release, Willis said the school phones were down due to the outage. Willis advised the public to call the central office at 304-420-9663 to relay any messages during the outage.
Due to the longevity of the outage through the remainder of the school day, Willis advised parents to pick up their kids early.
By early afternoon, Mon Power had restored full power for the community.
Willis said the outage was due to “issues with a local power substation.”
Officials with Mon Power did not respond by print deadline.
