Multiple fire departments respond to two fires Tuesday

PARKERSBURG – Multiple local fire departments responded to a brush fire and structure fire Tuesday evening.

The Vienna Volunteer Fire Department was called in to a quarter-mile-long brush fire around 5 p.m. according to Vienna Chief Steve Scholl on Wednesday.

Scholl said the fire was near Staunton Avenue and Corning Park and spreading toward the railroad and neighboring businesses.

“Once we arrived on the scene we had the fire out within an hour,” said Scholl.

He said the Parkersburg Fire Department was busy putting out a structure fire around the same time so they called in Vienna to respond to the brush fire.

“We called in East Wood and Blennerhassett Volunteer Fire Departments to help,” he said. “The three departments took care of it.”

Scholl said the reason the brush fire started remains under investigation.

The Parkersburg Fire Department did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment about the structure fire.
