MARIETTA — The Marietta Chapters: Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), in partnership with Veritas Classical Academy, invites the public to a special ceremony commemorating the 250th Anniversary of Marietta founder General Rufus Putnam’s actions that would lead to George Washington’s first victory, liberating the city of Boston. The event will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 5, on the Veritas Classical Academy campus, 115 Victory Place.

This milestone celebration will honor the history and legacy of the local pioneers such as Rufus Putnam and Jonathan Stone, along with military leaders Henry Knox and George Washington, in their struggle to force the British from the Massachusetts city at the heart of the liberty movement. The little-known story of the overnight construction of fortifications at Dorchester Heights overlooking the city by an army engineer named Rufus Putnam would go down as one of the greatest military achievements of the American Revolution. The program will feature guest speakers, patriotic musical performances, and participation from veterans, descendants of patriots, and local students.

A special focus will be placed on local Washington County residents who served in the American army during the siege of Boston.

Starting at $2.99/week.
