Smoot Theatre to present Christmas movies
PARKERSBURG — Two classic Christmas movies will be presented Friday and Saturday at the Smoot Theatre on Fifth Street in Parkersburg.
“The Polar Express” about kids who learn the meaning of Christmas from Santa Claus will be presented at 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Friday. The animated movie was made in 2004 and stars Tom Hanks in several roles.
The morning show is attended by school children including second graders from Belpre Elementary School, said Felice Jorgeson, artistic director at the Smoot Theatre.
“And they wear their pajamas,” she said.
“It’s a Wonderful Life” will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday. The movie is the Frank Capra masterpiece about George Bailey who considers jumping from a bridge until his guardian angel, Clarence, shows him how things would turn out for the worst if he never existed.
Most people have not seen the movie on the wide screen of a theater, Jorgeson said. The show, made in 1946, is in black and white and stars Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed.
Admission to the shows is $8 for adults and $5 for children.
