First Lutheran holding candlelight Christmas Eve services

PARKERSBURG — First Lutheran Church will celebrate the season with its traditional Candlelight Christmas Eve services today.

The early service is at 5:30 p.m. with special music beginning at 5:15 p.m. The late night mass is at 11 p.m., with special music beginning at 10:30 p.m. Both of these candlelight services include favorite Christmas hymns. At the conclusion of each service, everyone receives a candle to light before joining and singing “Silent Night.”

The late service will feature the Festival Choir, under the direction of Senior Choir Director Shandra Ice and will include the Senior Choir and special vocalists, First Lutheran organist Sherry Fosselman, and accompanist Carolyn Anderson. The Eastlawn Brass and special percussionists will make their annual appearance as well..

Holy Communion will be celebrated at both services.

As is tradition, red and white poinsettias will decorate the sanctuary, given in honor and remembrance of members, friends and relatives. Worshippers will be surrounded by candlelight and seasonal greenery.

First Lutheran Church, located at 1701 19th St., is handicap accessible and has the hearing assistance “LOOP” system. A nursery will be available during the 5:30 p.m. service.
