PARKERSBURG — A painter is the featured artist in November at WesBanco on Market Street in Parkersburg.

The multi-talented Christine Rhodes will display her work in oils, acrylics, watercolors, and mixed media in an exhibit available from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays.

“I’ve been making art since early childhood when the urge to create came calling,” Rhodes said. “One of my earliest pieces was a crayon mural done in secret on the wall behind the family sofa.”

Rhodes has been recognized for her art by many organizations.

She earned multiple awards in the National Watercolor Society International Juried Exhibit in 2020 and was granted Society signature status the same year. Rhodes earned multiple awards from the West Virginia Watercolor Society, including several best of shows.

Other awards include the West Virginia Juried Exhibition, Allied Artists of West Virginia, West Virginia Forest Festival, the Parkersburg Art Center and a third place award from the West Virginia Division of Arts Culture and History in the 2025 Inspired: A West Virginia Series of Juried Exhibitions featuring West Virginia wildlife

“Over the years my work has evolved into more sophisticated forms,” Rhode said. “My work in oils, acrylic and watercolor encompass a wide range of subject matter from realistic still life and wildlife portraits to non-representational abstraction.”

Among her favorite and best-known pieces are paintings of cairns and rock formations.

“This exhibit consists of 15 rock paintings and shows how a single subject can inspire a wide variety of interpretations,” she said.

Rhodes has extensively exhibited throughout her career. Her 2025 exhibits include three invitations to the Division of Arts and Culture “Inspired” exhibits at the State Museum, the American Watercolor Society Associate Members Exhibition, Crosscurrents Juried Exhibit and Lyrical Abstraction Invitational at Stifel Fine Arts in Wheeling. Her work has been included in the International Juried Exhibitions with American Watercolor Society and National Watercolor Society in recent years.

“Images of rocks and cairns have been a recurring theme in my artwork for many years. Rocks are beautiful, timeless, mysterious. And they provide endless possibilities for expression and interpretation. I chose to include only rock paintings in this exhibit to demonstrate the wide variety that’s possible in a simple subject,” Rhodes said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
