PARKERSBURG — A staffer at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Parkersburg was presented with the first Great Futures Trailblazer last week at a regional conference.
Cole Anthony began his career as a youth development professional in 2023 and was nominated and selected for being an everyday hero working directly with kids who inspires, empowers and makes a hands-on difference.
“Cole has a unique way of connecting with our club kids that lets them know he is always going to be there to support them,” said Darlene Murphy, Boys and Girls Clubs interim COO. “He always meets them on their level, treats them with respect and knows how to have fun with them.”
The award was presented by the Professional Association, a Boys & Girls Clubs of America group serving as the voice to all involved with the movement. The association created the Trailblazer Award and presented it to Anthony during the midwest regional conference in Louisville, Ky.
Anthony was selected among other nominees in the 13-state midwest region.
“Working with kids is a blast, and I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve had while working at the Club. I’m letting this award serve as a reminder that I’m doing what I need to be doing,” Anthony said. “The kind words from parents as a result of the award announcement mean the world to me.”
After working as a youth development professional for a few months, Anthony moved to a middle school lead position before becoming the elementary program director. He recently became office manager.
“I’m so thankful to do what I do, and I always strive to do better to make a positive impact,” he said.
