VIENNA — A Vienna man and his wife have produced light-hearted videos about dads turning 40 on social media that have been viewed millions of times around the world.
Ron DeLancey of DeLancey Productions LLC posts the shorts on TikTok, Facebook and Instagram that are about turning 40-years old and the travails of that point in life.
“Anything that will make people laugh or smile in any small way,” he said.
DeLancey and his wife, Larissa, who runs the business end of the company and is the videographer, have been making the 30-second to 1-minute videos for about three years. DeLancey Productions was established in 2024.
“She’s a huge part of the business,” said DeLancey, whose background is in retail management.
The subject matter is about the struggles of getting older, raising children and other issues a father may encounter on the journey, he said.
“And the things I go through,” DeLancey, who recently turned 42, said.
The DeLanceys have been married 10 years. They lived in the west, then returned here in 2022.
He became a stay-at-home dad and she works at home in her business.
“It’s just a fun experience to do it together,” Larissa said.
Larissa is always behind the scenes of the company. Larissa will hold the baby, Luke, 3, in one hand and the camera phone in the other.
Sometimes she can’t keep a straight face because Ron is so funny, Larissa said.
“You can see me cracking up every new moment,” Larissa said. “It’s impossible to keep a straight face while filming him.”
Most of the scenes are set in the Mid-Ohio Valley and DeLancey plays all the parts. If the skit involves his wife, “I will play her as well,” he said.
Clicks on the videos are measured in the millions, DeLancey said.
A video from Dr. Seuss’ book, “One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish,” set to the song “All the Small Things” by the band Blink-182 reached 15 million hits, he said.
The big one with 35 million hits was shot at a truck stop on Interstate 77 near Ripley where DeLancey, looking sad, sees all the semis he passed while he was driving.
“You feel like you’ve lost ground,” DeLancey said.
DeLancey, originally from Coolville, started making the videos about three years ago when he returned to the region. So far he and his wife have made hundreds of videos, upward of 600, he said.
Locations in the Mid-Ohio Valley are used in the videos, DeLancey said. Sites, including many places in Marietta, are getting a worldwide exposure, he said.
“I think it’s pretty cool,” he said. “I like to promote the area.”
Nothing fancy is done while the skits are being shot, Delancey said. While Larissa is in the business end, he does all the editing and post-production.
“We do it very raw,” he said. “It adds to the authenticity of the skit.”
The videos can be seen on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/de.lan.cey/, Tiktok at https://www.tiktok.com/@rondelancey and on Facebook by searching his name.
The videos also have been liked by several well-known celebrities, DeLancey said. Among those are media personality Khloe Kardashian, actress Reese Witherspoon and Usain Bolt, known as the fastest man on the planet earth.
“That’s kind of cool,” DeLancey said.
