PARKERSBURG — The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra Parkersburg will host the Ohio University Symphony in a night filled with musical mischief Friday, Oct. 24,at 7 p.m. at the Wood County Resiliency Center for its first “Symphony of Screams” concert event.
From playful poltergeists to thunderous timpani, the OU student orchestra will conjure a delightfully eerie soundscape perfect for kids, grown-ups, and anyone who loves a little musical mischief. It’s the scariest music on this side of the strings.
The OU musicians will dress in their favorite costumes and encourage audience participation. The WVSOP chose the Resiliency Center for the “Symphony of Screams” to bring an evening performance to downtown Parkersburg and encourage new concertgoers.
“We want to invite people who have never experienced symphonic music to come enjoy a fun concert that will get them hooked on this great art form,” said Becky McGinnis, chair of the WVSOP board of directors. “The program is filled with classical music that will please even the most ardent classical music fan.”
Tickets are $10 per person, with children under the age of 12 free. The concert and activities will be at the Resiliency Center at 328 Second St., Parkersburg. Refreshments, candy and spooky drinks will be available. Tickets will be available at the door or online at wvsop.org.
The concert event is being organized by Priscilla Leavitt and a group of WVSOP members. “Anyone who comes dressed in a costume of any sort will be entered to win some drawings,” Leavitt said. “There are a few other fun surprises and extra special happenings too. Very Important Ghost designated seating is available for $25.”
The next WV Symphony Parkersburg concert will be with the WV Symphony Orchestra and the traditional “Sounds of the Season.” Visit wvsop.org for more information about all the 2025-26 season’s offerings and learn how to purchase the gift of music for the holidays.
