Marietta to host celebration of U.S. Marine Corps 250th anniversary

MARIETTA – The Marietta chapters of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution will hold a special public ceremony commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States Marine Corps at 10 a.m. Nov. 10 at the Veritas Classical Academy campus, 115 Victory Place.

The celebration will honor the history and legacy of the Marine Corps, founded on Nov. 10, 1775.

The program will feature guest speakers, patriotic music and participation from Marine veterans, descendants of the Revolutionary War and local students. A special focus will be placed on local Washington County residents who have served in the Marine Corps.

Among speakers will be Marine Corps veterans Mark Kernini, Ron Morris, Brian Reeder, Jonathan Tucker and historian Scott Britton. The Marine Corps League, Sgt. Bob O’Malley Detachment 1436 Honor Guard and the Marietta Chapter SAR Color Guard will post the colors.
