Downtown PKB starting to plan celebration for US’s 250th birthday

PARKERSBURG – Downtown PKB has announced that plans have officially begun for Parkersburg’s event to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

The nonprofit organization is working alongside the City of Parkersburg to plan a free community celebration for July 4, 2026, at Bicentennial Park in downtown Parkersburg.

“The event, which is being planned and facilitated by Downtown PKB, is not a fundraiser of any kind, and will be free to all attendees,” said Amanda Stevens, Downtown PKB executive director. Downtown PKB is working closely with Parkersburg Mayor, Tom Joyce, and committee members: Downtown PKB staff, Stevens and Jessica Strickler, Downtown PKB executive committee and officers, president, Marvin Edwards, owner of Maka Mia Pizza and Rustic House Antique Mall, vice-president, Lindsey Anderson, United Bank, committee chair and board secretary, Wendy Shriver, Discovery World on Market, treasurer, John Nicholson, Lindsey Piersol, Wood County Economic Development, Ryan Barber, City of Parkersburg Development Office, Jim Sweezy, iHeart Media Parkersburg, Judy Parrish, Parkersburg Woman’s Club, Chief of Police, Matthew Board, and Fire Chief, Jason Matthews.

Currently, plans include live music, food, and fireworks, and more. The public is invited to come and share ideas and suggestions for the celebration of America’s 250th birthday on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Parkersburg City Council chambers.
