YMCA of Parkersburg names 2026 Heart of Our Community Award

PARKERSBURG — The YMCA of Parkersburg has named its 2026 Heart of Our Community Award recipient.
Charlie Burd will be honored at the Heart of Our Community Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Grand Pointe Conference and Reception Center in Vienna.
Burd’s lifetime of service professionally and personally reflects the values the award celebrates, the YMCA said.
“It is difficult to put into words how honored I am to be selected to receive this award,” Burd said. “Throughout my life and career, I have sought only to do my best for my community without seeking any personal recognition. To have my name placed beside the many others who have had this award bestowed upon them is quite humbling.”
As president of the Gas and Oil Association of West Virginia, his duties include managing the day-to-day operations of the more-than 450-member trade association of oil and natural gas producers/operators and the diverse businesses that serve them. He will retire from the association in 2027.
He also oversees GO-WV’s environmental, regulatory and legislative initiatives that affect communities across the state.
He is a past board president for the YMCA of Parkersburg and former board member for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Parkersburg and consistently invested his time and resources into organizations supporting youth in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Burd has served on multiple West Virginia University advisory committees, the West Virginia Chamber, the West Virginia Manufacturers Association and the West Virginia Business and Industry Council.
