MARIETTA — To celebrate 75 years of the Marietta Photographic Society, the organization is hosting a special celebration at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9.
The event is open to current and past members and anyone interested in photography. It’s scheduled to be held at the Gilman United Methodist Church at 312 Gilman Ave.
Former President Susan Allender said the club has gone through many changes over the 75 years and she’s excited to celebrate. They voted Holly West as president in August and Allender “passed the torch” after being in the role since 2020.
“This is such a milestone for any organization to be around for so many years and we’ve seen so many changes,” she said.
The event will include refreshments, presentations, photographic displays from past and present members, and a photo competition.

The Society encouraged the public to submit photographs from the past 75 years and selected submissions will be displayed in the gallery at the anniversary event.
“We meet monthly on the second Tuesday at Gilman United Methodist Church,” said Allender. “We have a short business meeting and then we have special programs with guest speakers.”
The Marietta Photographic Society was founded in 1950 and has established a community of photographers from film to digital over the years. Allender said the Society is open to everybody and they encourage anyone to join whether they’re experienced or beginners.
Allender said anyone can attend the monthly meetings but those who want to participate in the yearly photography contests can pay an annual $15 fee.
“We plan to have guest speakers each month who will talk about wildlife or landscapes and photography tips and tricks,” she said.

Members who participate in the yearly photo submission contest have the opportunity to win an award or plaque for their photo.
She said that after COVID, they’ve had more energy and more photographers and anyone should join.
