PARKERSBURG — A door prize will be offered this year at the annual Trinity Episcopal Church Used Book Sale from Wednesday to Saturday at the church on Juliana Street.
The door prize is “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire. The book was made into the film “Wicked: Part 1” in 2024. Part 2 “Wicked: For Good” is scheduled for release on Nov. 21.
Entering the drawing is free for visitors to the book sale. Visitors must be present at the book sale to enter and are limited to one entry per person and the winning entry will be drawn after the sale closes at noon Saturday.
It is only the second time in the 75-year history of the book sale that a door prize is offered.
The sale will be held in Trinity Hall, 430 Juliana St. The hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday.
Funds raised by the book sale support outreach programs in the community and the church, including food assistance, choir scholarships and child advocacy.
The annual book sale is an opportunity for readers to peruse through thousands of publications to find those that entertain, instruct, or inspire and the sale includes an expanded section of selected gems. The section offers prized editions and coffee table books including West Virginia history books, yearbooks, hardcover pictorial coffee table books and pre-1940 books.
“This year, we researched the books for rarity and value,” said Donna Coleman, one of the volunteer staff managing the gem section. “Then we discounted the actual market value to make these books more competitively priced for our Mid-Ohio Valley customers.”
The 2025 gems section includes more than 100 books of colorful photographs. The subjects range from fine arts, exotic destinations and West Virginia features.
“In our expanded collection of 1900-1950 volumes, you may find some of your favorite childhood books, or the novels you remember on your family’s bookshelves,” Coleman said. “Many of our treasured books on religion, history or literature are now out of print and becoming rare.”
