Open house set for ‘Black Life in Belpre’ exhibit

BELPRE — The Belpre Historical Society and The Farmers Castle Museum will be hosting an open house for the new exhibit “Black Life in Belpre in the Late 19th Century: Church, School & Family” from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

In addition to the existing exhibits and the Underground Railroad in Southeastern Ohio gallery, the open house and reception for the new exhibit will be free to the public.

In honor of Juneteenth, the “Black Life in Belpre” exhibit will feature period photos and artifacts that will provide further insight into the history of Belpre in the 19th century.

The exhibit is guest curated by museum intern Ty Mayle who is a student from Marshall University.

During the open house and reception, Mayle will be available to answer questions from guests and discuss exhibit information.

Attendees can expect information on local genealogy related to the exhibit in addition to refreshments during the reception.
