PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Solid Waste Authority will be holding a number of collection events in the coming months to gather a variety of waste material.
“We’re reaching further across the county to make it easier for folks to get rid of hard-to-dispose items and help protect the environment,” said authority Director Sarah Robinson. “These events also offer residents a great chance to clean up their properties for free.”
The events are:
* April 12: Paint Collection at the Williamstown Welcome Center from 8 a.m. to noon with help from the Williamstown Lions Club.
* May 17: Community Collection Event at the Erickson All-Sports Facility, 8 a.m. to noon for paint, scrap metals, freon, appliances, books, textiles, unopened medical supplies and gently used medical equipment. No medications will be accepted.

* Sept. 27: Belleville Paint Collection from 8 a.m. to noon at Robinhood Road at the Belleville Community Building.
* Oct. 25: Waverly Community Collection at the Waverly Volunteer Fire Department from 8 a.m. to noon for paint, scrap metals, non-refrigerant appliances, books, textiles, unopened medical supplies and gently used medical equipment. No medications will be accepted.
“We also provide free litter control supplies to anyone looking to organize or help pick up litter in their community, including organizations, groups, churches, students and local residents,” Robinson said. “Let’s work together to make Wood County a beautiful place to live and visit.”
The authority also has its Borrow-a-bin program where if someone or an organization is planning a large event, they can borrow bins to collect trash, plastic bottles and cans. The authority will provide trash bags and gloves free of charge, but participants will need to dispose of the trash and recyclables themselves.
