Roane County native among finalists for 2024 Mountaineers of Distinction

MORGANTOWN -- A Spencer student at West Virginia University at Morgantown was among the 2024 finalists for Mountaineers of Distinction.
Suraya Boggs, a sociology and anthropology major, is vice president of WVU NAACP and is a WVU Eberly Scholar. She participates in the S.U.R.E. Undergraduate Research Program and volunteers for the Pasa Sustainable Agriculture Farm and Food Workers Relief Program.
Boggs also attended the Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer College Institute at Carnegie Mellon University.
WVU recognized the five Mountaineers of Distinction for 2024 at the Nov. 16 football game with Baylor University. They were Haley Bockius of Canonsburg, Pa., Laasya Chennuru of Kearneyville, W.Va., Mary G. Roush of Mason, W.Va., Christopher J. Smith of Pt. Pleasant, W.Va., and Dakota Swiger of Bridgeport, W.Va.
The awards are presented each year during Mountaineer Week.
