Charleston Ballet holding auditions for its next ‘Nutcracker’ production

CHARLESTON -- The Charleston Ballet will hold auditions for the 2024 performance of "The Nutcracker" from 4:15-5:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at the ballet studios,100 Capitol St., Charleston.
Roles are available for students age 9 and older, including teenagers. Dancers must be enrolled at the American Academy Ballet and have prior ballet training and a commitment to attend all rehearsals is required.
Participants are asked to dress in ballet attire, such as black leotard and pink tights.

"The Nutcracker," written in 1892 by Tchaikovsky, is set on Christmas Eve and is about Clara, a little girl who is given a nutcracker and dreams it comes to life.
Under the direction of Kim Pauley, shows are scheduled Dec. 13-14 at the Maier Performance Hall at the Clay Center. Pauley is the artistic director, chief executive officer and chief choreographer of the Charleston Ballet.
The performances will feature the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
The Charleston Ballet was established in 1956. The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra is in its 86th season.
