Marietta College's Kaplin earns All-Defense nod
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Marietta College Baseball team had one player earn a spot on the coveted 2024 American Baseball Coaches Association NCAA Division III Region All-Defensive Team announced Wednesday afternoon. Senior Ben Kaplin was honored as the top defensive catcher in NCAA Division III Region 7.
Kaplin claimed the award as he had nearly a perfect season as the Etta Express backstop. He posted a .997 fielding percentage this season, committing only one error in 321 total chances. Kaplin also threw out more than half of the runners that tried to steal a base on him, catching 15 out 29 would-be base stealers.
Kaplin was also named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference second team this year as he also performed well offensively, recording a batting average of .322 and collecting two home runs and 13 doubles for the year. He also drove in 43 runs, fourth best in the OAC.

Marietta College's Pachete earns All-American honors
MARIETTA, Ohio - One member of the Marietta College men's rowing team earned a prestigious postseason award. Freshman Nicholas Pachete was named to the 2024 Empacher – Intercollegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-American second team.
"We had a stalwart freshman class this year," said Marietta head coach Greg Myhr. "Making the Varsity Eight as a freshman is no small feat; holding down the six seat for much of the year as a freshman is almost unheard of. Nick not only managed this, but also dominated in the classroom, leading our team with a perfect 4.0 both semesters. Leadership personified, with much more to come!"
In order to be named All-American, collegiate rowers and coxswains must have met all eligibility rules defined by their institution and raced in their team's varsity boat for the current spring racing season.
Since its formation in 2020, the IRCA has recognized all "well-deserving rowers and coxswains who have distinguished themselves as some of the top performers in men's collegiate rowing." The IRCA were also pleased to announce the continued support of Empacher Bootswerft, who remains the sponsor for both the Scholar Athletes and All Americans.
