Based on the popular comic strip by Harold Gray, “Annie” has become a worldwide phenomenon and was the winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The beloved book and score by Tony Award winners, Thomas Meehan, Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin, features some of the greatest musical theater hits ever written, including “Tomorrow.”

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. She is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage that is run by the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. With the help of the other girls in the orphanage, Annie escapes to the wondrous world of NYC. In adventure after fun-filled adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations… and even befriends President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

She finds a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

“The best part about putting on this show is working with my colleagues from the band, drama, and English departments as well as students from all these departments. We work together very well to create something better than what one group could have done alone,” said the musical’s director, James Sundquist.

“It’s so satisfying to see how student-centered this production is – the cast, crew, and most of the orchestra are students. We’re so pleased to be able to run the production this way,” said Courtney Clark, another director of the production.

“It’s such a joy for me to work on these productions because former students that I worked with are now teachers and colleagues helping direct. We have a wide range of ages from the students through all the directors, and it’s great seeing us all work so well together,” said co-director Angie Erb-Gentile.

“It’s great to see how hard everyone has worked to make this show possible, and it’s also so fun that we have a real dog to play Sandy,” said Taylor Richards, a sophomore who will play Oliver Warbucks.

“The hardest part about the show this year has been learning the choreography, but it’s worth it – it’s going to be a great show,” said junior Mollie Smith who plays Annie, the title character.

“I really enjoy getting to play a few different characters this year. It gives me a chance to explore and act out a few different personalities,” said Nick Bland, a senior who plays Rooster Hannigan and Ralph Mudge.

“It’s really fun to get to express myself and be crazy and over the top – I like getting to play someone who is different from me in real life,” said Haylee Grimm, a senior playing Miss Hannigan.
