VIENNA -- More than 250 attendees contributed to a future education at Marshall University at Thursday’s dinner and program presented by the school’s alumni and Big Green Chapter of the Mid-Ohio Valley.
Proceeds from tickets to the dinner and silent auction will go to scholarships, said Laurie Martin, Mid-Ohio Valley chapter president of Marshall University Alumni Association.
"We give out scholarships worth between $1,000 and $2,000 each," she said.
Martin said all 290 tickets for the dinner were sold. The dinner has taken place for 15 years.
"This community has been very supportive. Each year attendance has increased and each year donations from live auctions increased," Martin said.
Marshall University President Brad Smith, the dinner's keynote speaker, said the Mid-Ohio Valley chapter of the alumni association is one of the most active chapters in the country.
Smith said his time in West Virginia taught him three lessons.
"I took three lessons from here: integrity, humility, and teamwork," he said.
