VIENNA -- ReStore, an operation of Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley, has received a donation of playhouses that will be assembled Friday at the annual Great Friday community youth ministry at South Parkersburg Baptist Church.
Great Friday, held each year on the evening of Good Friday, brings students and ministry leaders from local churches together for a shoulder-to-shoulder service, worship and food and fun, Eric Tucker, director of Escape Ministries at Liberty Street Church, said.
Between 2022 and 2023 more than two dozen different youth ministries joined forces to pack more than 30,000 meals to send to food insecure countries around the world through Rise Against Hunger, he said.
"This year we'll pack another 10,000 meals," he said.
To bring things closer to home this year, in addition to packing meals, 15 Little Tikes playhouses will be assembled to donate to Habitat for Humanity, Tucker said.
"We thought this would be a creative way to expose the expected 400-plus students and youth ministry leaders who will be joining us for the event for the work that Habitat for Humanity is doing right here in our community," Tucker said.
Five houses will be put aside for Habitat families with young children. The remaining 10 houses will be available for sale for $75 in the ReStore in Vienna starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.
"We are grateful for these houses, put together by youth volunteers, which exemplify the time put into building Habitat homes, and our service of offering low-cost home items for sale to the public to support our home-building mission," ReStore Manager Dave Welch said. "We look forward to sharing them with the community on Easter weekend."
