RIPLEY -- The Coats for a Cause drive organized by the Public Defender Corporation in the 5th Judicial Circuit was successful, organizers said.
The community-driven initiative is aimed at providing warmth to local school children and was organized by the Public Defender Corporation's offices in Ripley and Spencer.
The drive received substantial support from the community, resulting in the donation of over 100 coats.
"Our rural counties and school systems often face challenges with limited resources, especially in meeting the diverse needs of their student bodies," Morgan Fowler, community client coordinator at the Public Defender Corporation, said.
Fowler was a driving force behind the event and emphasized the importance of the initiative.
"Coats for a Cause is a symbol of community solidarity and a commitment to ensuring that no child goes without warmth in the cold months ahead," she said.
Recipients of this effort include Fairplain, Cottageville, Spencer and Pleasant Hill elementary schools that are in the 5th Judicial Circuit.
Besides contributions from the community, Coats for a Cause received a significant donation of coats from American Third Pillar Charities.
This program underscores the corporation's commitment to legal advocacy and to community welfare and exemplifies the spirit of compassion by addressing the immediate needs of students, according to Fowler.
