PARKERSBURG — Organizers are asking for sponsors and volunteers for the annual Fishing Derby scheduled in April in Parkersburg.

The 43rd annual derby will be held from 9 a.m.-noon April 13 at the City Park and Southwood Park ponds. The event is free for children.

Samantha Joe Mace, who chairs the derby committee, said anyone interested in volunteering or needing information on business sponsorships and donations for prizes can email parkersburgfishingderby@gmail.com or contact the Wood County Recreation Commission.

Donations are appreciated, she said.

“We’ll figure out a place for them to go,” she said.

Hundreds of children line the banks of the ponds to hook the largest fish and win prizes in several age categories. The ponds are stocked each year with trout including a golden trout.

Fish will be stocked this year from April 10-12, Mace said.
