PARKERSBURG -- A masquerade ball has been organized to benefit a girl from the Parkersburg area with an aggressive form of childhood cancer.

Melody Judy, 7, the daughter of Kortni Alexander, is battling Wilm's Tumor, a kidney cancer that mostly affects children from 3-to-14 years old.

The Mardi Gras Masquerade for Melody will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Parkersburg Art Center where a silent auction, music and dancing and a catered meal are planned, organizer Amanda Dowler said.

The Mardi Gras-themed affair will have a New Orleans ambiance. Dress will be formal to semi-formal with masquerade masks.

Tickets are $50 and include a drink at the cash bar. The web address to buy tickets is http://tinyurl.com/5xu4zzuz.

Donations also are being accepted. The link to make a donation is http://tinyurl.com/mw9ws2ad.

The ball will be catered by Southern Craft, a restaurant in Parkersburg. The music machine will be operated by Brett Anderson. The silent auction table includes gifts from local businesses.

Melody's parents were notified of the cancer on Sept. 7, 2023, after a CT scan of the lower-abdomen found the tumor on her left kidney.

Doctors removed the kidney and the 2.3-pound tumor, also known as nephroblastoma. The cancer had metastasized and nodules formed in her lungs. She is on weekly radiation and chemo treatments.
