MARIETTA -- Peoples Bank Foundation has donated $200,000 to local food pantries and United Way affiliates in Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, Minnesota and Vermont this holiday season.

The donations help provide food security and other basic needs during the holidays to individuals and families in the communities served by Peoples Bank.

Of the $200,000, $125,000 is being donated to 100 non-profit organizations that support hunger relief and $75,000 is being donated to 34 United Way affiliates near Peoples Bank offices.

"It is essential to our mission as a community bank to help meet the needs of our local communities," Chuck Sulerzyski, president and chief executive officer of Peoples Bank, said. "No one should go to bed hungry, especially during the holiday season."

Through voluntary employee payroll deductions, Peoples Bank associates have donated about $500,000 to food banks within the footprint of Peoples Bank branch locations since April 2020, Sulerzyski said.

"I am proud of how our associates continue to come together to help individuals and families in need," Sulerzyski said.

Some of the holiday donations have already been delivered, including $10,000 to United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley and $1,000 to Greater Marietta Community Food Pantry. The remaining donations will be delivered before the end of December.

Peoples has been headquartered in Marietta since 1902.
