Clauses deliver smiles at Oak Grove VFD

OAK GROVE -- For at least 65 years, according to President and Fire Captain of the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department Austin McVicar, the Oak Grove VFD has taken Santa around West Muskingum Township to greet children and give them toys and candy.
"I remember when I was a kid looking forward to seeing Santa," said McVicar. "Now I get to see my boy do it."
This year, Santa gave out coloring books, crayons, stickers and candy canes Sunday. According to Wendy Thieman, Oak Grove VFD Squad Captain, they usually give out toys to accompany the other items, but they decided to try something new.
"I think we are going to go back to toys next year," said Thieman.
This year's goodies were handed out in bags put together by Thieman, Nikki Burchett, Allyson McVicar and Tori Henthorn.
"Santa didn't have time to make the bags in the North Pole, so we're helping him out," said Theiman.
According to McVicar, Oak Grove VFD also collects food donations for the Gospel Mission Food Pantry while Santa is greeting the children.
