WASHINGTON -- A Norway spruce from West Virginia arrived Friday morning in Washington, D.C., where it will be the Capitol Christmas tree for 2023.
The 60-foot Norway spruce was felled in the Monongahela National Forest in Randolph County and began its journey to the nation's capital several weeks ago. A tree-lighting ceremony will be held 5 p.m. Nov. 28 in Washington.
"It is an honor that the 2023 Capitol Christmas tree is from beautiful Randolph County, W.Va.," Rep. Alex Mooney, R-W.Va., said. "I hope that West Virginians can join us in Washington for the lighting ceremony."
Mooney Friday also released details on attending the lighting ceremony.
Gates will open to the public at 4 p.m. Nov. 28. Parking near the Capitol is restricted and those attending the ceremony should walk or use mass transit.
Everyone will enter along First Street at Garfield and Peace Circles.
Those requiring accessibility services can call the Office of Congressional Accessibility Services at 202-224-4048 for more information.
Constituents who have questions about attending the ceremony can call Mooney at 202-225-2711.
