Sissons’ artwork on display at WesBanco

PARKERSBURG — The artistic team of Debbie and Stephen Sisson and their multi-media talent will be on display in November at WesBanco in downtown Parkersburg.

Debbie Kalt Sisson works in acrylic, oil, watercolor, pen and ink, pencil and Prismacolor.

“I prefer landscapes of West Virginia as well as animals and birds,” Sisson said.

Sisson graduated from Marshall University with a degree in Art Education and received a Master of Arts Degree along with additional graduate hours. She was an art teacher for 38 years in the Jackson County School System.

Debbie Sisson has exhibited her art for many years and received numerous awards. A few of her exhibitions have been at the Black Walnut Festival, she has a piece in the permanent collection at the Erma Byrd Gallery at the University of Charleston, at Tamarack as a juried artist participating in several shows, solo and several group shows at the Parkersburg Art Center and the West Virginia Watercolor Society juried exhibit at The Arts Center in Elkins.

She has been the featured portrait artist for the Jackson County Community Foundation since 2014, which has enabled her to paint and meet many famous people such as Henry Winkler, Jack Hanna and Mary Lou Retton.

“Since I retired in 2016, we have been able to turn our family room into a working studio,” she said. “Each of us has our own drawing table and spend time drawing and painting there, often together.”

Stephen Sisson paints in acrylics, pen and ink, color pencils, charcoal, tempera paint, watercolors and pastels.

“My drawings and paintings reflect my interest in items with a technical theme. I also have an interest in architecture, history, and historical figures. Some of my drawings and paintings reflect this interest,” he said.”I enjoy landscapes and I like a free-style painting in landscapes.”

Stephen Sisson has a bachelor’s of fine arts from West Virginia State College. He has exhibited his art at the Black Walnut Festival Art Show, Battle Days Art Show in Point Pleasant, the French Colony Art Show in Gallipolis and the Cultural Center Juried Art Show.

Two pieces of his work were sold at the Juried Exhibits at the Cultural Center. He has received from first-place to honorable mention awards in several of his exhibitions and was just juried into Tamarack and was accepted into Allied Artists of West Virginia.

The Debbie and Stephen Sisson art exhibit will be on display at WesBanco Bank, 415 Market St., during November during regular business hours of 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Fridays.
