MARIETTA -- The members of the Women's Giving Circle have donated $11,000 to three groups in Marietta.
At the fall 2023 meeting, the Women's Giving Circle approved $4,000 for the Harmar Rowing Club, $4,000 to GoPacks and $3,000 to the Caring Connection.
The donation to the Harmar Rowing Club will be used to reduce student fees and replenish its scholarship fund for students to participate in rowing. Scholarships assist students needing to pay for uniforms, meals during travel and other expenses.
GoPacks will provide access to consistent, nutritious food to students in Marietta City Schools, the Washington County Career Center or are home-schooled in the Marietta area.
The funds to the Caring Connection will assist it to create and implement a diaper program, helping families give their babies a healthy and safe start in life.
"We are very grateful for the Women's Giving Circle's generosity," Eric Dowler, president of the Harmar Rowing Club, said. "This is naturally a very expensive sport. These funds will significantly improve accessibility to the sport for youth in Washington County."
GoPacks is appreciative of the financial partnership with the Women's Giving Circle, Heather Warner, director of GoPacks,said.
"Such community support ensures that local students have access to nutritious food, despite the climbing food prices we are all experiencing," Warner said.
Jim Tilley, director of Caring Connection, also thanked the Giving Circle.
"I'd just like to say thanks to the Women's Giving Circle for giving us the means to meet a real community need," he said.
Susie Warman, a new member of the Women's Giving Circle, cited the impact of the donations.
"I liked how the three different organizations all get some of the pot of money," she said.
Since 2016, the Women's Giving Circle has made contributions of more than $72,000 to nonprofits in the region.
