Participants on the beat for annual Mid-Ohio Valley Heart Walk

PARKERSBURG -- The Mid-Ohio Valley Heart Walk will be held 5 p.m. today at City Park.
The walk is part of a national effort through the American Heart Association. Funds raised will help fight the No. 1 and No. 5 killers of Americans, heart disease and stroke.
Registration is 5 p.m. with the walk starting at 5:30 p.m.
"We are so excited to see the people of the Mid-Ohio Valley once again get to come together in this fight, as so many of us have been impacted by heart disease and stroke," said Amanda Sosebee, development director for the American Heart Association. "We can't wait to see all of the smiling faces of our community teams, volunteers, sponsors and, of course, our survivors."
With the walk is the Kids' Zone, the Pup Parade, a disc jockey and four-legged friends from the local animal shelter. Area sponsors include WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center, Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Parkersburg, Mon Health (Vandalia Health), Parkersburg Cardiology Associates and Precious Angels Early Learning Center.
WTAP and Results Radio are the media supporters. WTAP's Phyllis Smith will emcee the event.
"We can't say thanks enough to our sponsors and community partners," Sosebee said. "They helped us make this year's Heart Walk a success and, without them, our mission to save lives couldn't happen."
Survivors will wear special caps, red for heart and white for stroke.
"If you want to know why you help, just look at our Red Cap and White Cap survivors," she said. "They are all the motivation you need."
