Inaugural Fall Festival finds itself under the weather in Marietta

MARIETTA -- Daryl Griffin was taking admission money at Washington County Fairgrounds Gate 1 Saturday, but he wasn't very busy. Rainy weather was taking care of that.
"We had high expectations," Griffin said about the turnout for the first Fall Festival the county fair board has organized. "We just wanted this to be a place for families to come out together and have some fun, and in the meantime raise a little money to keep the place going."
The plan is to make it an annual event, and Griffin believes it will grow into something big. In the meantime, the board has a reverse raffle fundraiser in the works for November.
Three hundred tickets are being sold for the Nov. 4 event. They're $50 apiece and can be purchased by contacting a fair board member or calling the fair board office at 740-373-1347.
The ticket includes dinner and a chance to win the grand prize of $2,000. There will be additional side raffles offered. The event will be held in the Junior Fair Building. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner will take place at 6 p.m. Ticket holders must be 21 years of age or older.
