Fair Shake Environmental Services readies workshop for Community Democracy Ambassadors
PARKERSBURG — Fair Shake Environmental Legal Services is recruiting for its second Parkersburg cohort of Community Democracy Ambassadors.
The public is invited to this leadership program from 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Parkersburg/Wood County Public Library on Emerson Avenue.
Attendees will be trained as “Community Ambassadors.” Community Ambassadors will identify the issues they care about, and how decisions are made about those issues. They will also learn how they can use their strengths to turn their community vision into action.
The Ambassador Community is a way for everyone to be involved — especially those who care deeply about their city but are unsure where to start to help their neighborhood.
Many municipal leaders say they want to engage with community members to hear feedback, thoughts, and ideas. At the same time, community members have told Fair Shake that it can be challenging to participate in local decision-making. They don’t feel knowledgeable about the process, confident in their skills, or sometimes welcomed to be meaningfully involved with their decision-makers.
Fair Shake is working to bridge that gap through the Ambassador Community. Ambassadors will join a larger group of passionate neighbors who work together to envision what they want for their communities, and move that vision into action. They will also receive a $50 gift card in thanks upon completion of the program. Childcare and transportation assistance will also be available. Interested community members can find more information and register on the program on Fair Shake’s website, or text 330-422-4394.
