PARKERSBURG — A Parkersburg man has received a high honor from the West Virginia Republican Party.

A life-long Republican, Lewis Rexroad was given the title of Emeritus Member of the West Virginia Republican Party.

A resolution for Rexroad was presented to him by Chairman Elgine McArdle at the state Republican Party 2023 Summer Meeting Luncheon on Aug. 26 at the Summersville Arena and Conference Center in Nicholas County.

Rexroad, born in Mannington, in 1966 came to Parkersburg after his discharge from the U.S. Air Force.

Rexroad was appreciative of the award.

In Mannington years ago, it was difficult to find enough Republicans “to fill a phone booth,” Rexroad told the audience.

“It’s quite an honor for somebody from just a small town,” he said.

The resolution says Rexroad has been a conservative Republican activist for decades.

He served in the Air Force from 1962 to 1966 and worked for United Parcel Service for 33 years as a driver in Sistersville and St. Marys. Rexroad retired in 1999.

Rexroad also is a member of the West Virginia Secretary of State’s West Virginia Hall of Fame that honors voters who have not missed a single election for at least 50 years.

Since 2007, Rexroad has been an active member of the Wood County Republican Executive Committee and is a past member of the West Virginia Republican Party State Executive Committee.

The resolution cites his service as a Republican poll worker and ballot commissioner in Wood County and as a Republican presidential elector for West Virginia in the Electoral College in 2020, “faithfully casting his vote for President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.”

Rexroad has been faithful to the party, McArdle said.

“There’s something in that resolution that wasn’t there,” she said. “This man also faithfully donates to the Republican Party,” she said.
