PARKERSBURG -- A woman who works with numerous media is the September Artist of the Month at WesBanco Bank in downtown Parkersburg.
The multitalented Emma Romanowski works in ceramics, acrylic painting, wood working, glass blowing, building murals, photography and printmaking. The WesBanco show will feature photography, multi-medium paintings, printmaking and ceramics.
"As with all things in my life, I try to keep a sense of curiosity and variety in my work," Romanowski said. "I like to almost stay a perpetual student, always developing new skills and exploring new media."
In developing skills in a new area, Romanowski said she uses applications in familiar media to find new ways to cross skills.
"I think this, for me, keeps everything fresh and exciting, it keeps my attention and keeps my passion alive," Romanowski said.
Romanowski taught art at Parkersburg High School for seven years and has been at Parkersburg South High for two years. She has taught Art 1, crafts, drawing, Art 3 and ceramics.
She has a bachelor's in art education from West Liberty University and has master's classes in ceramics in fine arts from Morningside University.
Romanowski's exhibitions have been at the Nutting Gallery at West Liberty, WesBanco Parkersburg, Artsbridge, the Parkersburg Art Center and West Virginia Art Education Association Members Show.
"Knowing that someone out in the world took a second out of their day and felt an emotion, any emotion, for something that I created from raw materials is the driving force behind my will to create - human connection," Romanowski said.
The Romanowski exhibit will be on in September regular hours of 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday at WesBanco, 415 Market St.
