West Virginia Symphony Parkersburg
PARKERSBURG -- The West Virginia Symphony Parkersburg kicks off its 2023-24 season with Music Director Maurice Cohn on Sept. 10 in Parkersburg.
The WV Symphony will also perform the Opening Symphonic Concert at Blennerhassett School in Parkersburg beginning at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 10. Hosted by the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra of Parkersburg, tickets for the concert start at $25 for adults and are available at wvsop.org, at the door, or by calling 888.699.8767 (MYWVSOP). Student tickets are free.

Daughters of the American Revolution
PARKERSBURG -- The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the James Wood Chapter in Wood County are celebrating Constitution Week from Sept. 17-23.
Americans are encouraged to reflect on the United States Constitution during the annual observance to honor the foundational document of national governance.
The observance started in 1955 when the DAR petitioned the Congress to dedicate Sept. 17-23 each year as Constitution Week. Congress adopted the resolution on Aug. 2, 1956, and it was signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
The observance provides opportunities for educational initiatives and community outreach, two mission areas of crucial importance to the National Society.
"We are so proud DAR led the way in making Constitution Week an official commemoration and our members enthusiastically promote the celebration annually in communities across the country by erecting community displays, sponsoring municipal proclamations, ringing bells and staging programs to raise awareness of the Constitution's tenets and importance," DAR President General Pamela Rouse Wright said. "We encourage all citizens to join us in celebrating this powerful document that is so important to American history and to reflect on the impact the Constitution has had on the lives of American citizens past and present."
The DAR is among the largest patriotic women's organizations in the world with more than 190,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the country and foreign countries.
