HOMECOMING
* Goose Creek Baptist Church
CAIRO -- Goose Creek Baptist Church is planning a homecoming event for Saturday at the church at 146 Sams Road off U.S. 50 in Ritchie County.
Dinner starts at noon, with meat provided and those attending asked to bring a covered dish. Special music will be provided by the Putnam Family from Glenville at 2 p.m., with a guest speaker at 4 p.m.
Former pastors and previous members are invited to the family reunion-like event, which will include crafts, games, food and fellowship. Church memorabilia will provide a special look into the past, with recordings of vacation Bible school, Christmas programs, baptisms and more. A luminary lighting ceremony in memory of those who have passed away will take place in the evening.
People are advised to wear comfortable clothing and bring chairs or a blanket for the all-day event.

* Fall Bazaar
The Red Hill United Methodist Church Fall Bazaar will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 29.
Country store and craft items, baked goods and lunch will be available.
* Fall Vendor and Craft Sale
Wayside United Methodist Church, 3001 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, will hold its Fall Vendor and Craft Fair from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 30.
Twenty-five vendors and crafters will be in the gym.
All proceeds will benefit Wayside Youth Missions.
EVENTS
* Blessing of the Animals
PARKERSBURG -- The Memorial Church of the Good Shepherd will hold a short Blessing of the Animals service at 5 p.m. Oct. 4 in the church court yard at 903 Charles St.
"St. Francis of Assisi is known and revered worldwide for his special love of and connection with animals," the Rev. Lou Hays, the new priest and interim rector of Good Shepherd Church, said. "We will gather on his feast day to give thanks for our pets and all animals and share God's blessings with them and their owners."
Everyone is welcome and participants can bring their dogs, cats or any other animals, Hays said. A picture can be used if the pet can't travel, he said.
"Children's stuffed animals can also be blessed," Hays said.
The brief outdoor service will be moved indoors in the event of inclement weather, he said.
