The Next Stage: Smoot slates 2023-24 Performing Arts Series season

PARKERSBURG — The Smoot Theatre’s 2023-24 Performing Arts Series starts this month and will feature five performances in several musical genres.
“It’s a big variety of entertainment,” Felice Jorgeson of the Smoot Theatre said.
The series opens 8 p.m. Aug. 26 with Rob Caudill’s tribute to Rod Stewart, “Rod Stewart – Tonight’s the Night.”
The next show is “Rhinestone Cowgirls, Legendary Ladies of Country Music” on Sept. 20.
“Valjean, Cosette and a String Quartet” is scheduled on Jan. 13.

The rock band Queen will be featured Feb. 17 in “Rock Rhapsody Hits of Queen.”
The final show of the series will be a performance by Lucie Arnaz, the daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, on April 13.
All shows are 8 p.m. and tickets are $45 for all shows.

Season-ticket patrons can attend pre-show parties and receptions, reserved seats and discounts on other shows, among other perks.
Arnaz, with musical director Ron Abel, will sing songs from her career on stage and childhood and tell stories and anecdotes of her parents, who were two of America’s most popular entertainers.
“It sort of chronicles her mom’s life,” Jorgeson said.
Caudill is based in Memphis and look like Stewart with blonde spiked hair and wearing a leopard skin coat on stage. He has performed around the world.
The Rhinestone Cowgirls perform songs by the women legends of country and western music including Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Martina McBride and Carrie Underwood.

In “Valjean, Cosette and a String Quartet,” Josh Young, a Tony Award nominee, and wife Emily Padgett, a star on Broadway, sings songs by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim in popular musicals including “Les Miser-ables,” “Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats.”
Rock Rhapsody features stars from the stage in Australia, Broadway and London’s West End performing songs by one of the greatest rock and roll bands in history.
Receptions will be held prior to all shows in Wakley Hall next to the theater on Fifth Street, Jorgeson said. The Smoot Theater also has arranged for pre-show and after-show specials at the Blennerhassett Hotel for anyone attending the show.
