School Resource Guide: Welcoming new Wood County principals

Stephanie Agee

Stephanie Agee has been named the new principal at Franklin Elementary Center. This marks her 14th year in education in West Virginia and her seventh year with Wood County Schools. The last three years she has served as Assistant Principal at Lubeck and Neale Elementary.

Agee is a graduate of West Virginia University of Parkersburg with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum Instruction from Salem University.

Tim Collins

Tim Collins has been named principal of Lubeck Elementary School for the 2023-24 school year.

Collins has been with Wood County Schools for 10 years, having served as a Title 1 Math Interventionist at Kanawha Elementary, a 6th/8th grade math teacher at Jackson Middle School, an assistant principal at Blennerhassett Middle School and as Assistant Principal of Curriculum & Instruction at Fairplains and Martin Elementary Schools, as well as at Jefferson Elementary school this past school year. He has a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and Mathematics Specialization from West Virginia University of Parkersburg and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Marshall University.

Lee Ann Cumpston

Lee Ann Cumpston was named the new principal for Williamstown Elementary School.

Cumpston has a bachelor’s and a master’s from Marshall University (Elementary Education K-8 and Reading Specialist K-12) and has taught at multiple area schools as a Title I interventionist, reading resource teacher and Title I teacher. She achieved National Board Certification in Reading while teaching at Kanawha Elementary School. Most recently Cumpston completed her 10th year as an administrator, the majority of those at Franklin Elementary Center.

Kurt Echard

Kurt Echard has been named principal of Van Devender Middle School.

Echard has been an employee of Wood County Schools since 2014. He came to Wood County Schools from a mental health/behavior treatment background where he worked at a residential juvenile treatment center for 14 years. He has a Master’s degree in counseling through Marshall University and earned his administration certification through Salem University.

He began his career with Wood County Schools as a school counselor. He served four years as an elementary school counselor at Lubeck and Madison Elementary schools and then spent two years as the school counselor at Hamilton Middle School. In 2020, Echard accepted the assistant principal position at Van Devender Middle School and has held that position for the last three years.

Tina Lowers

Tina Lowers has been named principal of Jefferson Elementary Center.

Lowers has been with Wood County Schools for 16 years, starting at Vienna Elementary teaching grade 6 and then moving on to Greenmont Elementary as a PreK teacher for 11 years. Lowers spent 3.5 years at Jefferson Elementary as the C&I assistant principal before becoming principal at Van Devender Middle School.

Lowers is a former Wood County Schools student, attending Rockport Elementary, Mineral Wells Elementary, Edison Junior High and graduating from PSHS. She attended WVUP and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education K-8 and continued via MUGC to receive a Masters in Education and a Masters in Educational Leadership.

Adam Schaffer

Adam Shaffer has been named principal of Criss Elementary School.

Shaffer first fell in love with education by watching his mother teach mathematics at Blennerhassett Junior High School. Shaffer attended Blennerhassett Elementary and Blennerhassett Junior High School before graduating from Parkersburg South High School in 2012.

Shaffer went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Fairmont State University where he also represented the men’s Fighting Falcon’s tennis team. While obtaining his elementary education degree, he received an associates degree in American Sign Language Interpreting and had experience providing language services to school aged children. This would lead him to getting his master’s degree at Marshall University in Special Education and becoming a certified deaf/hard of hearing teacher.

While finishing his masters, Shaffer started his teaching career at Emerson Elementary School where he taught second grade. Shaffer was nominated for Wood County Teacher of the Year in 2020 and became one of six finalists. He went on to obtain his administration certificate and became the school’s Curriculum and Instruction Assistant Principal. While working as a C&I, Shaffer coached tennis for the Edison Middle School boys and girls tennis team and was the head boy’s tennis coach for Parkersburg South. In addition, Shaffer also worked part time for a local social services organization.
