PARKERSBURG -- Area drivers need to be prepared Saturday morning as a number of streets and bridges will be closed as the Parkersburg News and Sentinel Half-Marathon will be held throughout the area.
Parkersburg and Belpre Police officials are telling area motorists to plan and prepare for road and bridge closures throughout the morning as the 13.2 mile race is conducted.
The Parkersburg-Belpre Bridge is scheduled to close between 7:30 a.m. and 7:50 a.m., Belpre Police Chief Michael Stump said.
''We will keep it closed until we get the all clear,'' he said.
With the Memorial Toll Bridge still closed, the only available alternative route from Belpre to Parkersburg is the Blennerhassett Bridge and U.S. 50.
People need to plan accordingly and give themselves extra time to get where they are going, Stump said.
''People need to understand when you get into Parkersburg there are going to be roads closed,'' he said.
Parkersburg Police Captain John Cumpston is advising people to be aware of and plan accordingly to avoid the road closures.
''People need to especially avoid downtown,'' he said. ''Traffic will be blocked off when the race reaches that section of road.
''There will not be any traffic on any section of road where the race is."
The wheelchair race starts at 7:50 a.m., runners start at 8 a.m. and the 2-milers start at 8:05 a.m.
The Wood County Sheriff's Office has released a list of the bridges and intersections affected by Saturday's race.
At 6 a.m., the U.S. 50 eastbound Juliana Street exit will be blocked with barricades to prevent traffic from entering downtown.

* W.Va. 95 and Gihon Road ( Ramp)
